About the Business Unit
Integrity, Regulation and Legal Services (IRLS) supports the Attorney-General and the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) Ministers by providing legal, policy, integrity and assurance expertise to DJCS and Justice Ministers.
We work collaboratively with key entities across the justice system and the department to ensure policy and legislation reform is strategic, relevant, holistic and people centred.
Integrity Policy and Performance supports the Attorney General in her role as the First Law Officer and Minister responsible for Victoria's justice and integrity system, provides whole-of-Victorian-government policy leadership on integrity and oversight, privacy and information sharing issues, and supports the operation of integrity agencies within the Victorian Government.
The First Law Officer Team supports the Attorney-General in her role as First Law Officer including, advising on, processing and developing improvements in respect of:
petitions for mercyapplications for litigation restraint ordersprisoner transfers for trial,the State's compliance with the Model Litigant Guidelines,applications involving the Attorney-General's role as Protector of Charities, andrequests to take evidence for use in civil proceedings in overseas jurisdictions
The team also supports the Secretary of DJCS in her role administering the Expungement Scheme.
About the Role
The Manager is responsible for leading a small team of high-performing staff to deliver the First Law Officer Team's work program.
Some of your duties will include:
Leading a team responsible for developing evidence-based legal and legal policy advice, briefings for the Attorney-General and the Victorian Government, as well as Cabinet and parliamentary documentation, reports and Ministerial and other correspondenceDelivering the Attorney-General's key First Law Officer functionsBuilding and maintaining close, effective and candid relationships across the department, as well as other departments, agencies and external stakeholders.

About You

Technical legal and legal policy skills with the ability to analyse complex issues, interpret legislation and develop accurate legal and policy solutionsA wealth of experience in Victorian Government administrative processes (including legislative and Cabinet processes) and policy developmentKeen knowledge of criminal law practice and procedure and human rights would be advantageousA strong ability to build and manage a team of professional staff to deliver high quality outputsA strong ability to build and maintain positive, resilient and inclusive workplace culture.
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor of Laws or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.
Eligibility to apply for a practising certificate highly regarded.
