Parish of St. Joseph | Newport & Spotswood
We are currently looking for the right person to join us on our mission as we seek to fill a Parish Pastoral Worker position. The role is based at the Parish Office, Newcastle St., Newport. The position is 12 hours per week, for a 12-month fixed term contract, with possibility of extension. Working hours are from 9am – 3pm on Tuesdays and Wednesday, however this is flexible and inclusive of hours for sacrament preparation sessions. The successful applicant will assist the Parish Priest and Pastoral Leadership Teams in inspiring and spreading Christ's love and welcoming all into our Parish community. St Joseph's achieves this goal by implementing the principles, practices and teachings of the Catholic Church as well as its vision, mission and strategic plans. Terms and conditions are governed by the Archdiocese of Melbourne.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Liturgy
* Working with Parish Liturgical Teams in the preparations of Mass materials (commentaries, prayers of the faithful, Power Point slides) for the 2 weekend Masses across two churches;
* Supporting Liturgical Teams, Mass coordinators, Music providers in their assigned work;
* Planning, with the Parish Priest, ceremonies of the church's major liturgical seasons;
* Planning and developing training programs for volunteers who work in the liturgical area.
Sacraments
* Facilitates the work of RCIA, RCIC, with volunteer support;
* Oversees preparations for baptisms, and assists in marriage preparation;
* Liaises with Parish REL's regarding the school-based sacramental program.
Community Outreach
* Coordinating pastoral visitation programs and the distribution of Holy Communion;
* Overseeing outreach initiatives for new and re-engaging established parishioners.
* Active outreach through parish newsletter, website, facebook, etc.
Faith Formation
* Leading or Supporting volunteer-led Alpha, Catholic Kids and Adult faith formation programs
Leadership and Team Coordination
* Attending regular meetings with Parish Priest, Support Team and Administration staff;
* Managing pastoral program budget and quality standards.
* Coordinate Children's Liturgy;
* Supporting Sunday worshipping community and enhance their involvement in Parish Life;
* Be the first point of contact for pastoral initiatives and pastoral needs coming in and out of parish life.
WHAT YOU BRING
* Computer literacy with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
* Familiarity with the Archdiocese Software "PACEM" would be an advantage, however training can be provided
* A practicing and committed Catholic
* Relevant qualifications in theology and/or pastoral studies
* Experience in leadership in a Parish environment
* A passion and respect for the vision and mission of the Parish of St. Joseph
* Possess effective communication and organisational skills
* Ability to build positive and collaborative relationships with Parish Priest, staff and volunteers and develop sound working relationships, working with a spirit of generosity
* Excellent interpersonal skills with healthy, professional boundaries
