Mayam Mayam Member of the Board of Directors Overview
Mayam Mayam Ltd is a corporate entity committed to providing secure, quality, affordable and culturally safe homes and services for Djaara (Dja Dja Wurrung People). It operates under the Dja Dja Wurrung Corporate Group alongside DDWCAC, trading as DJAARA, which focuses on the formal representation and implementation of Dja Dja Wurrung rights, interests and obligations.
Board Functions
* Provide organisational leadership and advice.
* Oversee operations of the businesses, including accountability and control mechanisms.
* Ensure appropriate risk management, internal control, codes of conduct and legal compliance.
* Propose the annual budget and business plan for approval.
* Provide input into the corporate strategy and annual business plan of the Dja Dja Wurrung Group.
* Formulate and maintain oversight of key policies and procedures.
* Promote the organisation (business development, fundraising, outreach).
Desired Skills and Capabilities
* Significant expertise in construction, project management, or development of residential housing.
* Significant experience in the not‐for‐profit community housing sector.
* Significant experience managing and operating residential housing stock.
* Expertise in developing and implementing due diligence frameworks.
* Risk management knowledge.
* Accounting, finance and investment skills.
* Governance and reporting experience.
* Contract management knowledge.
* Business‐to‐business networking ability.
* Strategic business planning competence.
* Marketing experience.
* Entrepreneurship and business development skills.
* General operational management capability.
* Specific industry expertise relevant to community housing.
Appointment
Up to three Independent Directors and one Djaara Member Director will be appointed for a period of three years by the DDWCAC Board.
Meetings and Time Commitment
The board meets six times a year, typically online or in person in Bendigo, on weekdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Preparation time is required to review meeting papers before each meeting. Board members may also be asked to attend special events, other meetings, or serve on committees.
Expectations of Board Members
* Attend and participate in meetings and special events regularly.
* Participate on standing committees and ad‐hoc committees as necessary.
* Stay alert to community concerns that can be addressed by DDWCAC and Mayam Mayam in carrying out its mission, objectives and programs.
* Help communicate and promote the DDWCAC mission and programs to the community.
* Become familiar with Mayam Mayam finances, budget and resource needs.
* Understand and comply with the policies and procedures of the Dja Dja Wurrung Corporate Group.
