Description

About the role
This is a broad, influential finance role with visibility across Council's operations, planning and long‐term financial sustainability. You'll drive budgeting, forecasting, analysis and financial business partnering, working closely with managers and senior leaders to strengthen financial sustainability across a diverse rural council.
As Management Accountant (Budgeting and Analysis) you will:
* Lead/support budgets, quarterly reviews, long‐term forecasting and financial modelling
* Deliver high‐quality financial analysis, advice and reporting
* Help operational managers understand performance, obligations and improvement opportunities
* Gain exposure across annual financial statements, investments, grants financial management, cost allocations, asset accounting, and finance systems/reporting improvements
About you
You are technically strong, commercially aware and confident partnering across an organisation. You can turn complex data into clear, practical advice and build financial capability outside the finance team.
Ideally, you bring:
* Demonstrated experience in management accounting, including budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
* Strong analytical capability and proven delivery of meaningful insights for decision‐making
* Experience preparing financial models, reports and commentary for managers/senior stakeholders
* Confidence partnering with operational managers and building financial capability
* High attention to detail, sound judgement and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‐paced environment
* Strong proficiency in Excel and financial systems
Nice to have:
* Experience with Civica Authority
* Membership or eligibility for CPA Australia or CA ANZ
* Experience in local government or public sector finance
* Experience coaching/training non‐financial staff in budgeting/reporting

What we offer
* Base salary $100,000–$135,000 p.a. + super (DOE)

Note: This is not a fully remote role. Regular work from Walgett is required; at least 2 weeks per month onsite is strongly preferred.
