Overview
Our Group Legal division provides legal advice and support to the Bank’s business units, senior leaders, and executives on a broad variety of legal issues. We are looking for an accomplished Senior Legal Counsel to join the team full time or part time (4 days per week).
Reporting into the Head of Group Legal, you’ll partner closely with the business as a trusted legal advisor to support strategic initiatives in a fast-paced and regulated environment. You’ll also assist with overall legal needs for major projects and transactions, such as regulatory changes and responses to identified risk exposures.
We’re seeking a mid to senior level lawyer with demonstrated experience working in the financial services sector, ideally with experience supporting large tenders, procurement and technology, and an understanding of relevant prudential standards, including CPS234 and CPS230.

This role can be based in Adelaide, Bendigo, Melbourne or Sydney. We offer flexible work options that put our people first, and a hybrid model with a minimum requirement of 60% of your time per week in the office.
Responsibilities
* Partner with the business as a trusted legal advisor to support strategic initiatives in a fast-paced and regulated environment.
* Assist with overall legal needs for major projects and transactions, including regulatory changes and risk exposure responses.
* Provide legal advice to the Bank’s business units, senior leaders, and executives.
* Collaborate with the Head of Group Legal and other stakeholders to support ongoing compliance and risk management.
What you’ll bring to the role
* A legal qualification and admission to practice in Australia
* Demonstrated experience in a similar role within Banking and Financial Services (private practice or in-house)
* Strong relationship skills to build trust with senior executives and business partners
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
* Ability to interpret and explain complex legislation and to plan and implement policy and risk management strategies considering regulatory changes
