Job Description
The Office of the Consumer Advocate for Insurance is responsible for examining underwriting practices and guidelines of insurers, agencies, managing general agents, third party administrators and agents, and reporting prohibited underwriting practices to the Superintendent.
The Office conducts investigations into insurers, agencies, managing general agents, third party administrators and agents concerning premiums charged for contracts of insurance and availability of contracts of insurance.
The Advocate responds to requests for information with respect to insurance, develops and conducts educational programs and carries out insurance related tasks or investigations as directed by the Legislative Assembly.
The position requires a Bachelor's degree, preferably in law, with consideration given to degrees in public administration, business or related disciplines.
A minimum of 10 years work experience in one or a combination of the following areas is required: insurance industry experience, interpretation of legislation, regulation and policy, resolution of disputes using formal and informal conflict resolution approaches, conducting investigations within a regulatory or legal framework, senior management experience in a private or public sector organization including managing financial and human resources.
