The Role

As a Secondary Teacher with SSEN:MMH you will be a highly valued member of a team providing quality education to students whose physical or mental health presents difficulties in accessing their usual educational program. The co‐teaching environment in our programmes is diverse and dynamic on any given day, as you support individualised student needs within multi‐age classrooms. Suitable applicants are adaptable and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as you work with various other staff within and beyond education. Meeting the needs of all students requires you to work collectively with others and to be open to their opinions and perspectives in order to achieve positive student outcomes.

These positions will appeal to teachers with a breadth and depth of secondary curriculum knowledge and adaptive pedagogical skills. The role will suit self‐reflective, motivated teachers with outstanding classroom teaching practice and a range of experience teaching across subject areas. In addition, the diverse nature of our student population requires excellence in differentiated teaching and planning. Our staff make use of a multi modal learning approach to achieve student outcomes and to engage students in active learning. As a culturally responsive and inclusive school one of your key priorities will include providing all students with opportunities to achieve success through education.

Permanent teachers in other locations within the Department of Education, who would like to work at our school and retain their substantive position, can apply. If this interests you, please discuss with your principal or line manager before applying.

SSEN:MMH

SSEN:MMH is one of seven specialist schools within Statewide Services. The SSEN:MMH administrative centre is based at Perth Children's Hospital in Nedlands, with metropolitan programmes in hospital and community health settings across campuses in the north and south metropolitan education regions. Staff are timetabled to programmes across these various campuses including Shenton Park, Bentley, Joondalup, Midland, Murdoch, Nedlands and Tuart Hill to ensure we meet the needs of all referred students from Kindergarten to Year 12 and improve the educational outcomes of these students.

SSEN:MMH is a school that strives for excellence through building the capacity of staff within a culture of support and by creating a learning environment where students can connect, learn and thrive. We encourage staff to share knowledge and exhibit self‐reflective practices. The school has a focus on quality teaching, while staff self‐improvement is promoted through Professional Learning Communities.

Staff at SSEN:MMH are responsive to diverse needs within a holistic framework of family, students' enrolled schools (both government and non‐government), other Specialist Schools and Statewide Services teams, community support systems and the health community. Staff at SSEN:MMH are continuously establishing and maintaining the vital link between health service and schools that is necessary for a student's total care. Our teachers work with interdisciplinary health teams, as well as collaboratively with other teachers and support staff. These teams assist us to meet the educational, medical and psychosocial needs of students ensuring their continuity of education.
