Position Information
Coffs Harbour High School is a comprehensive secondary school located on the North Coast of NSW with an enrolment of 796 students and a support unit comprised of five classes. The school incorporates a diverse student population, including 11.7% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and 25% of students with a Language Background Other than English, with the majority of these coming from a refugee background, and 14% with English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) currently receiving additional learning support. Our Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI) is 114, with 65% of students in the lowest two income quartiles.
Selection Criteria
- Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position.
- In addition to the general selection criteria, students with autism and mild to moderate cognitive disability.
- Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism and mild to moderate cognitive disability.
- Demonstrated collaborative leadership with the capacity to build and maintain positive, inclusive, trusting relationships and partnerships with students, staff, families and the wider community.
- Demonstrated ability and expertise in leading staff to develop and implement flexible and innovative learning programs designed to enhance student engagement and support the needs of students with additional learning requirements.
- Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills with the capacity to build solid partnerships, manage resources effectively, and advance whole-school special education priorities in a supportive, inclusive setting.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
