Position Overview
An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and highly skilled Research Assistant or Junior Postdoc to join the Christie Lab within the Cancer Evolution and Metastasis program at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. The research investigates how ovarian and endometrial cancers develop resistance to therapy and explores strategies to prevent or overcome treatment failure. The successful candidate will work independently within an existing team, analysing cutting‐edge single‐cell and spatial transcriptomics data to generate insights into treatment response, evolution and resistance.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct rigorous, valid and ethical research both independently and as part of the laboratory team, including carrying out NGS data analysis that fulfils project aims.
* Develop, maintain and optimise bioinformatics workflows/pipelines and visualisations using R, Python or relevant tools.
* Communicate research outcomes effectively, preparing scientific reports, manuscripts, presentations and visualisations.
* Support supervising students and staff, providing regular feedback and contributing to the administrative and management functions of the laboratory.
* Foster good working relationships with colleagues across the Cancer Evolution and Metastasis program and maintain compliance with Peter Mac research policies, data management procedures and inclusive workplace culture.
Qualifications
* Postgraduate degree (PhD, Masters or equivalent) in Genomics, Bioinformatics or similar.
* Demonstrated knowledge of cancer genomics and experience analysing next‐generation sequencing data, including single‐cell/nuclei RNA‐seq.
* Excellent R programming skills, with experience in Linux, shell scripting and high‐performance computing (Torque/Slurm).
* Experience developing and maintaining bioinformatics workflows, visualising results, and applying statistical methods.
* Strong critical‐thinking, troubleshooting, and organisational skills; able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience in Python programming, cloud computing, containerisation, and workflow languages (Nextflow/CWL/WDL) is desirable.
* Experience in ovarian cancer research and the ability to publish scientific papers is advantageous.
