Offer description

Be part of shaping the future of football performance at the Adelaide Football Club - helping turn data into insights that drive success on the field. The Computer Scientist will play a key role in how the Club captures, manages, and leverages football data across both AFL and SANFL programs. Working closely with the High-Performance team, coaches, and the Data & Analytics team, you'll help build and maintain data pipelines, manage performance databases, and integrate multiple sources of game and tracking data to support on-field performance.

This role is suitable for those looking to grow their expertise in football data management and analytics. The successful candidate will design and maintain data pipelines, manage databases, and enable the seamless integration of key data sources that directly contribute to player development and team performance.

Key Responsibilities

* Design, build, and maintain automated data pipelines for ingesting, cleaning, and transforming football-related datasets (e.g., GPS, match stats, video metadata).
* Manage internal databases and cloud-based storage solutions, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and security.
* Integrate multiple data sources, including Champion Data, Catapult, Hudl, and Strength & Conditioning systems.
* Enable analytical tools such as Tableau, R, Python, and SQL to connect to structured data sources.
* Support the deployment of dashboards and reporting tools to assist coaches and physical performance staff.
* Work collaboratively with analysts and coaches to understand data needs and enhance workflows.
* Document data processes and provide training/support to team members on data access and use.

What we are looking for…

We're looking for someone with both technical capability and a collaborative mindset — someone who enjoys solving complex data problems and turning information into insight.

* Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data pipeline frameworks.
* Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and database technologies.
* Familiarity with sports performance data formats and APIs (e.g., Champion Data, Catapult, Hudl).
* Understanding of data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
* Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
* A commitment to accuracy, security, and continuous improvement.

Desirable:

* Tertiary qualification in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
* Experience in a high-performance sport or elite team environment.
* Familiarity with video analysis workflows and performance tracking systems.
