The Media Entertainment & Arts Alliance is the union and leading advocate for workers in the creative and media sectors. It represents over 15,000 members across television, radio, theatre, film, journalism, music, and more.
Position: Organiser (Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane)
This role works as part of a team committed to securing good jobs and equality at work by building leaders and acting together to make change. The position is based in the MEAA national office in Redfern, Sydney.
Key Responsibilities
* Organise and recruit workers according to Union plans and direction.
* Build and maintain union leadership structures in workplaces, across industry sectors and geographic regions.
* Assist in member and leadership development plans and activities.
* Support members, delegates, leaders, and others with campaigns and related negotiations.
* Assist delegates and members to address workplace-based problems and grievances, including directing them to specialist assistance.
Preferred Skills and Experience
* Well‐developed organising skills, including recruiting and organising new members.
* Understanding, knowledge and some experience of union development and adult learning principles and practices.
* Experience with negotiation, workplace leadership and advocacy.
* Ability to use digital organising practices and techniques.
* Strong communication skills.
* Ability to work in a team environment.
* Commitment to trade union principles and workers' rights.
