Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Senior Family Lawyer role based in Adelaide, SA. The Senior Family Lawyer will manage a portfolio of family law matters, including separation, divorce, parenting arrangements, property settlements, financial agreements, and related disputes.
Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients, taking detailed instructions, providing strategic legal advice, drafting and reviewing court documents, correspondence, and agreements, and representing clients in negotiations, mediations, and court appearances.
The role involves mentoring junior legal staff, overseeing file progression, and ensuring that all work complies with professional, ethical, and procedural requirements. The Senior Family Lawyer will also contribute to practice development of the Firm.
Qualifications
* Admission as a legal practitioner in Australia and eligible to hold a current practicing certificate in South Australia.
* Substantial post-qualification experience in family law, including complex parenting and property matters.
* Strong skills in client interviewing, advisory work, and managing sensitive and high-conflict family disputes with empathy and professionalism.
* Proven experience drafting and settling affidavits, consent orders, binding financial agreements, and other family law documentation to a high standard.
* Confident advocacy and negotiation skills, including experience in mediations, dispute resolution processes, and court appearances.
* Demonstrated ability to manage files independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and maintain meticulous attention to detail.
* Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues to clients in accessible terms.
* Experience supervising, mentoring, or coaching junior lawyers and support staff is highly regarded.
* Strong professional ethics, sound judgment, and a commitment to confidentiality and client-focused service.
* Familiarity with relevant family law legislation, court rules, and local practice in South Australia.
* Proficiency with legal practice management and document management systems, as well as standard office software.
* Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment and contribute to a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
