Primary objective
Manage, lead and provide a contemporary clinical pharmacy service team for patients admitted under General Medicine and other Specialties at
Alice Springs Hospital and Tennant Creek Hospital.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide and lead a specialist clinical pharmacy service team to patients admitted under Medicine at Alice Springs Hospital (ASH) and co-
ordinate research activity within CAR/Barkly Services and the pharmacy department.
2. Provide specialist clinical advice and support to patients and staff of CAR/Barkly Renal Services, including site visits to regional areas.
3. Co-ordinate quality improvement activities and deliver educational programs on therapeutics activities within CAR/Barkly Renal Services and
the Pharmacy Department.
4. Participate in relevant medicine and research committees and provide expert advice, usage and financial reports to various governance
committees, unit heads, directors and executives.
5. Provide line management, coaching, training and supervisory support to staff, be a Pharmacy Resident Preceptor, assist with performance
management and peer review, and undergo regular performance management for self.
6. Provide tailored training and education relating to medicines to medical, nursing, pharmacy and other clinical staff as appropriate.
7. Contribute to the weekend, on-call and after-hours roster of the pharmacy department as required. Be available for emergency duties after
hours relating to responsibility of the position.
8. Take an active role in the senior pharmacy team through attendance at meetings and other activities as required.
9. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to
ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
10. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree or equivalent in Pharmacy and unconditional registration as a pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia
2. Extensive contemporary clinical pharmacy experience (preferably in general medicine) and demonstrated ability to maintain currency of clinical
knowledge.
3. Excellent negotiation and communication skills, and ability to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.
4. Practical understanding and experience in the implementation of the NSQHS standards and the national accreditation scheme for health
service organisations.
5. Demonstrated experience in applying continuous quality improvement and managing change in the clinical setting.
6. Proven capacity to coordinate clinical pharmacy services, manage staff and be eligible as a Foundation and Advanced Training Resident
Preceptor.
7. Extensive experience in the development of protocols, guidelines and policies, and provision of continuing education to healthcare staff and
patient groups.
8. Willingness and ability to travel by light plane or 4-wheel drives, and reside in, remote communities for up to a week.
9. Pro Proficiency in using Information Technology in clinical settings including substantial knowledge and experience with the use of electronic
medication management systems in acute care settings.
10. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
Postgraduate qualifications or research in clinical pharmacy, public health, education, or safety and quality.
