Role Overview
Job Title: Fab Lab Lead Technician (Full-time, 0.8 FTE, Faculty of Architecture, Building & Planning)
Salary: UoM 5 – $86,943 - $99,864 per annum (pro rata) plus 17% superannuation.
Lead daily operations in the Faculty's state‐of‐the‐art Digital Fabrication Lab, managing staff, students, and equipment, and promoting safety and quality across ABP's Maker Spaces.
Responsibilities
* Oversee daily Digital Fabrication Lab operations, including design‐for‐fabrication support, job scheduling, point‐of‐sale and workflow monitoring.
* Supervise technicians and student interns, ensuring adherence to lab procedures, rules, and high service standards.
* Uphold and improve OHS practices, contributing to safety procedures, incident management and student supervision.
* Monitor and support machine maintenance, troubleshooting faults, and coordinating maintenance plans with the Maker Spaces team.
* Deliver and refine training for staff and users and provide expert consultations on digital fabrication challenges.
Qualifications
* Demonstrated experience with CNC routers, laser cutters, 3D printers or other digital prototyping equipment.
* Proficiency with computer‐aided design software for preparing and interpreting files for fabrication workflows.
* Relevant qualification and experience in digital and analogue fabrication, or equivalent education and training.
* Experience providing effective supervision to junior staff or students, supporting consistent, high‐quality service delivery.
* Strong customer service and communication skills when supporting diverse student and staff cohorts.
* Sound understanding of workshop safety, OHS procedures and incident management in practical environments.
