Role Overview
The Principal or Senior Principal in Commissioning will lead planning and execution for large, complex projects worldwide, combining deep technical expertise with strategic leadership and client engagement.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead commissioning planning and execution for major capital projects.
* Develop and implement commissioning strategies and schedules.
* Lead readiness assessments, risk reviews, and constructability evaluations.
* Advise on systems completion, turnover strategies, punch listing, walk‐downs, and technical acceptance criteria.
* Support critical‐path decision‐making during commissioning and early operations.
* Liaise with senior EPCM and Operational Readiness stakeholders to ensure alignment.
* Provide senior‐level commissioning expertise and oversee execution plans.
* Facilitate alignment between engineering, construction, and operations teams.
* Travel to project sites for troubleshooting, readiness reviews, start‐up preparation, and performance optimization.
* Ensure commissioning deliverables meet safety, quality, and performance expectations.
* Build strong relationships with clients, leading proposal development and engagement.
* Represent Hatch in client meetings, governance forums, and steering committees.
* Identify opportunities to expand commissioning and related services.
* Mentor and coach emerging commissioning managers.
* Share best practices across global teams.
* Champion safety culture in all commissioning activities.
* Drive continuous improvement and innovation in commissioning practices.
Qualifications
* 15–25+ years in commissioning with proven leadership on projects >$1 B.
* Experience across diverse geographies and cultures.
* Strong client engagement and business development record.
* Excellent communication and influence skills.
* Expertise in at least one of the three main sectors: Metals, Energy, Infrastructure.
* Additional experience in operational readiness, asset management, or ramp‐up services is an asset.
* Strategic planning, execution leadership, and stakeholder management expertise.
* Safety‐conscious, collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset.
* Ability to work at all organizational levels and identify business opportunities.
* Competent technical communicator with empathy, adaptable messaging.
* Interest in governance support on projects.
