An exciting opportunity exists for an Endorsed Nurse Practitioner or a Registered Nurse to take on a Transitional Nurse Practitioner (TNP) role in the Drug and Alcohol Service (D&A; Service).
Note: The Nurse Practitioner (NP) role is a Registered Nurse authorised to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role within the Drug and Alcohol Service of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.
Responsibilities
- Provide focused assessment and management of clients using advanced knowledge and skills, which may include ordering diagnostic investigations, prescribing medications, and direct referral of clients to other health professionals.
- Provide leadership within the D&A; Service to support ongoing development of clinical practice, education programs, clinical service planning, and standards development.
- Operate as the senior nursing clinician and resource person for the D&A; Service, working with the Manager of Nursing Services, Nurse Manager, Nurse Unit Managers and Medical Director to ensure high standards of care.
- Manage and care for clients using a model of care that is appropriate, timely, and of high quality within the scope of practice and organisational guidelines.
- The Transitional NP (TNP) role is a temporary 3-year position; the incumbent will develop high-level clinical expertise and support the D&A; Service while progressing toward endorsed NP qualifications.
- Develop autonomy in the D&A; Service setting with authority to make decisions consistent with the Scope of Practice and the freedom to act accordingly as per AHPRA guidelines.
Qualifications
- Vaccination requirements for a Category A role.
- Working With Children Check (WWCC).
- Current AHPRA Registration.
- Tertiary qualifications at a Master Degree level or currently working towards the same.
- Valid NSW Driver’s Licence.
- Postgraduate qualifications in drug and alcohol nursing and/or extensive work experience in drug and alcohol services.
