About the Role
Senior Accountant within the tax and business advisory team, working with a high‐calibre portfolio of private clients, including entrepreneurs, privately owned business groups, and family enterprises across a broad range of industries and geographies. Collaborates closely with experienced Managers and Partners to help clients navigate complexity, manage risk, and solve real‐world business and taxation challenges.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare, review and finalise financial statements and income tax returns in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards, taxation legislation and firm methodology, ensuring technical accuracy and commercial insight.
* Review work prepared by junior accountants and graduates, providing timely feedback, coaching and development support, and ensuring workpapers meet firm and regulatory standards.
* Provide practical taxation advice to private clients across areas including income tax, capital gains tax, Division 7A, GST, fringe benefits tax, trust distributions and small business CGT concessions.
* Assist Managers and Partners in the delivery of value‐added advisory services, including tax planning, structuring, business growth, succession planning and wealth transfer for private clients and family groups.
* Build strong, trusted client relationships through regular communication, attendance at client meetings and proactive identification of issues, risks and opportunities affecting client outcomes.
* Coordinate and manage workflows for allocated engagements, including budgeting, monitoring work in progress, meeting lodgement deadlines and escalating issues to managers or partners where required.
* Prepare clear, comprehensive workpapers and technical documentation that support conclusions reached and are suitable for managerial, partner and regulatory review.
* Liaise with the Australian Taxation Office and other regulatory bodies on behalf of clients, including managing correspondence, objections and reviews.
* Actively contribute to a positive team culture by mentoring junior staff, sharing technical knowledge, and supporting training and development initiatives within the division.
* Maintain up‐to‐date technical knowledge of Australian tax and accounting developments and apply this knowledge to client work and internal discussions.
Qualifications
* Essential: Business or Commerce degree with accounting major.
* Strong communication skills.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
* Committed to continuing professional development.
* Desirable: Completion of CA or equivalent.
