About the role
Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, this Trade Upgrade opportunity is ideal for a motivated Light Vehicle Mechanic or similarly qualified tradesperson looking to upskill to a Heavy Diesel Mechanic qualification.
This is a workshop-based role where you will work alongside experienced WesTrac Heavy Diesel Mechanics, completing structured on-the-job training and off-the-job training through the WesTrac Institute in Perth. There is a clear pathway to full trade upgrade completion, typically within 2 years, subject to demonstrated competency and progress.

What you'll do
* Diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing Caterpillar equipment
* Carry out minor to major repairs, scheduled servicing, and preventative maintenance
* Support component removals, rebuilds, and commissioning activities
* Accurately complete work orders, inspections, and associated documentation
* Apply WesTrac safety systems, quality standards, and continuous improvement principles
* Actively participate in training, assessments, and development programs
Skills & Experience
* An Australian-recognised trade qualification (Light Vehicle Mechanic or equivalent)
* A genuine commitment to learning, upskilling, and completing a trade upgrade
* Strong mechanical aptitude, with exposure to heavy equipment advantageous (or a strong desire to learn)
* A reliable work ethic and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
* A focus on high-quality workmanship and continuous improvement
