An exciting opportunity awaits a motivated and experienced leader to join the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) as a OO6 Ranger in Charge.
QPWS is seeking a highly capable and motivated person to lead the delivery of key conservation and community-focused initiatives across the Sunshine Coast Area, while staying hands‐on with core ranger responsibilities.
In this unique role, you will work alongside the Senior Ranger to deliver positive outcomes in the diverse protected areas of the Sunshine Coast, leading a ranger team and contributing to essential on‐ground operations—including fire, pest and visitor management.
Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate
* Strong staff management and leadership skills, fostering a positive, collaborative, and high‐performing team culture.
* A commitment to mentoring, training, and developing team members to achieve their best.
* Exceptional communication skills, enabling clear direction, effective team coordination, and productive engagement with stakeholders and other agencies.
* Well‐developed financial management skills, including the ability to achieve operational goals within budget and meet all reporting requirements.
As Ranger in Charge, you will lead your team in delivering key natural resource management programs, including fire and pest management, capital works delivery and asset maintenance programs. You will also be responsible for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of your team, park visitors, and the effective management of compliance activities.
Fire management is a high priority in this role due to the proximity of large urban and peri‐urban interface areas. The successful candidate must demonstrate a high level of planning, stakeholder engagement, and operational oversight to assist with and deliver complex burn programs in these areas. A reasonable level of physical fitness is required to undertake and supervise core field duties.
Applications remain current for 12 months. Closing date is Monday, 01 June 2026.
