About the organisation
We are partnering with a reputable NSW Local Council to recruit a Payroll Administrator for an initial 2-month contract. This role will support the payroll function during a busy period and offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative team environment while contributing to the delivery of accurate and timely payroll services.
The role
Reporting to the Payroll Team Leader, you will be responsible for supporting the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring employees are paid accurately and in accordance with relevant Awards, Enterprise Agreements, policies, and procedures. The successful candidate will possess strong attention to detail, payroll administration experience, and the ability to work efficiently within a fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities
* Process and review employee timesheet information, ensuring labour costs are accurately recorded against the appropriate departments and activities
* Perform payroll checks to ensure employee payments comply with relevant Awards, Enterprise Agreements, legislation, and internal procedures
* Support the delivery of payroll cycles, including balancing and validation activities prior to payment processing
* Generate payroll reports and maintain supporting records for audit and compliance purposes
* Calculate and process payroll variations including leave adjustments, back pays, and employee terminations
* Update and maintain employee payroll information within the payroll system
* Provide timely assistance and guidance in response to payroll-related queries from employees and managers
* Compile payroll metrics, reports, and statutory information as required
* Contribute to the ongoing improvement of payroll processes and administrative practices
* Collaborate with the broader finance and payroll team to support operational requirements and special projects
Skills & experience
* Previous experience in a Payroll Administrator, Payroll Officer, or similar position
* Strong understanding of payroll processes and timesheet management
* Experience working with Awards, Enterprise Agreements, or industrial instruments
* Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
* Strong communication and customer service skills
* Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
* Previous Local Government or public sector experience will be highly regarded
* Proficiency with payroll systems and Microsoft Excel
