As a fire management professional, you will play a crucial role in protecting communities from bushfires and other emergencies.
The NSW Rural Fire Service is a dedicated community of volunteers who embody the spirit of mutual respect, support, friendship, and camaraderie.
We are looking for someone with strong fire behaviour knowledge and a genuine sense of purpose to join our team as an Area Planning & Fire Behaviour Officer.
This role involves interpreting complex data, fuels, weather, topography, and modelling to provide clear, practical advice that guides mitigation, suppression strategies, public information, and readiness.
You will work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, including volunteers, landowners, District teams, or partner agencies, to resolve complex bushfire risk issues.
Your key responsibilities will include building trust and contributing to plans and working groups that strengthen community resilience, operating with autonomy, meeting legislative responsibilities, and knowing when to seek guidance.
To succeed in this role, you will need to be proactive, collaborative, and motivated by protecting communities across the North East while being part of a high-performing, values-driven team.
We offer attractive leave entitlements, free access to our Member Assistance Program (MAP) for all RFS members, and their immediate family, salary packaging options, ongoing learning and professional development programs, and partnership with Fitness Passport for eligible RFS staff and their families to access more than 845 gyms and pools.
This role is located in Regional NSW, which means you're eligible for The Welcome Experience—a FREE service to help essential workers and their families move to regional NSW with ease.
