Offer description

Senior Child Safety Practitioner / Senior Child Safety Officer

The Department of Communities places child protection and family support services across the Goldfields region of Western Australia, providing specialist support and services to children and families in communities such as Leonora and Laverton.

As a Senior Child Safety Practitioner or Senior Child Safety Officer you will undertake complex statutory casework across child protection, children in care, and family support, and provide specialist practice guidance within the district. You will lead responses to serious child safety concerns, including complex assessments, investigations, and legal decision‐making under the Children and Community Services Act 2004. Through effective care planning, placement decision‐making, and consultation with colleagues you will improve outcomes for children and strengthen practice quality across the North Team.

A key focus of the North Team is the application of the Safe and Together framework, particularly in family and domestic violence work. You will:

* Partner closely with victim‐survivors
* Support practice that keeps children safe without unnecessary removal
* Strengthen accountability for perpetrators of violence
* Contribute to culturally responsive practice and engage strongly with Aboriginal families and services

Location benefits for working in the Goldfields include:

* Fully furnished 3‐bedroom GROH property provided free of charge, including utilities, Wi‐Fi and filtered drinking water
* Use of a departmental vehicle to home garage
* Annual leave travel concession – one free return trip each year for you and dependants
* Five days of commuted TOIL per year to support work‐life balance
* Paid leave allowances including 4‐week annual leave, 15 days personal leave, bereavement leave, 18 weeks paid parental leave, paid public holidays and study leave
* District allowance of $2,734‐$5,468 per annum to offset cost of living in a regional area
* Drive‐in, drive‐out option may be considered

Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology or a relevant human services area to be considered for the Senior Child Safety Practitioner role. Those without an approved qualification may apply for the Senior Child Safety Officer position.

Equity and Diversity: Communities welcomes applications from people from a diverse range of backgrounds and lived experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, people with disability, diverse sexualities and genders, youth, women and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Adjustments can be made to facilitate full participation in the application and interview processes.
