About the team
The Chief Information Officer Division (CIOD) is a dynamic, fast‐paced team that leads the digital agenda for the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. Working closely with stakeholders, CIOD co‐designs digital experiences that make it easier to innovate, collaborate, communicate, and continuously improve digital services through smart design and leading‐edge technology.
The ICT Operations Branch delivers high‐quality ICT support and core infrastructure services, ensuring staff across the department have access to secure, reliable technology.
The Assistant Manager, Desktop and Executive ICT Support is within the ICT Support Services Team and is responsible for overseeing desktop and executive ICT services across the department. The role leads a skilled team to provide high‐quality customer service and timely, specialist technical support to Ministerial and SES staff, while driving continuous improvement across the ICT Operations Branch.

This role offers a high‐visibility leadership opportunity within ICT Operations. You will lead a capable team delivering trusted, responsive ICT services to Ministerial and SES staff while improving service delivery and supporting executive operations across the department.

* Demonstrated experience leading desktop and executive ICT services that meet senior stakeholder and business needs.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of relationship building and liaison with Ministers' offices and senior executives.
* Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate, support and develop staff.
* Sound knowledge of ITIL practices and current technologies relevant to desktop and executive support.
* Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high‐quality outcomes under pressure while maintaining service standards and stakeholder confidence.
* Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation through better processes, tools and practices.
What you will do
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate your ability to:
* Lead and manage the Desktop and Executive ICT support teams, fostering a collaborative and customer‐focused culture.
* Focus on providing high‐level support to executive (VIP) users, guaranteeing fast, effective resolution of their IT issues, tailored solutions for their unique needs, and minimal disruption to their work.
* Coordinate the provision of efficient desktop support services, including troubleshooting, incident management and hardware deployments.
* Deliver high‐level support for executive staff, including VIP IT assistance, device management and tailored solutions.
* Contribute to strategic planning and implementation of IT service improvement projects.
* Maintain compliance with organisational policies, procedures and security standards.
* Develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, executives, Ministers' offices and key business areas across the organisation.
* Provide mentoring and professional development opportunities to team members.
Eligibility
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Notes
Minimum of 2 years' experience in a like or related field.
Aspects of this role will require successful applicants to be onsite.
