About the role
The Metal Sheet Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of sheet metal processing machinery, including cutting, folding, punching, rolling, and press brake equipment. The role ensures production targets are met in line with safety, quality, and efficiency standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate sheet metal machinery such as guillotines, press brakes, rollers, folding machines, and laser cutters.
* Interpret and follow engineering drawings, work orders, and production schedules.
* Inspect raw materials and finished products for accuracy, dimensions, and surface quality.
* Adjust machine settings, feed rates, and tools to achieve precise specifications.
* Handle and move sheet metal materials safely using cranes, hoists, or forklifts as required.
* Perform routine machine maintenance, lubrication, and cleaning to minimise downtime.
* Identify and report equipment faults or quality issues promptly.
* Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free workspace in line with 5S and WHS standards.
* Meet output and delivery targets.
* Complete daily production records, inspection sheets, and quality documentation.
* Package, label, and prepare products for dispatch
* Safely operate overhead cranes, lifting equipment, and forklifts
Skills and Experience
* Proven experience operating sheet metal machinery in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
* Strong understanding of sheet metal properties, cutting tolerances, and forming techniques.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and production instructions.
* Sound mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
* Familiarity with CNC press brake operation or programming is highly desirable.
* Forklift and/or overhead crane licence preferred.
* Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to WHS procedures.
* Attention to detail, teamwork, and reliability.
Qualifications
* Certificate III in Engineering (Fabrication Trade) or equivalent experience preferred.
* Current forklift licence (advantageous).
* Basic computer literacy for data entry and production recording.
