About the Opportunity

This strategic senior academic appointment leads the development of the University's bid for the 2026 National Environmental Science Program Marine Hub (NESP3). Subject to bid success, the position will provide executive-level academic leadership for the delivery of the Hub over its initial six-year funding period.

Responsibilities include designing the Hub's program architecture, governance model, and performance framework; securing and sustaining partner commitments; and ensuring research delivery aligns with national decision‐making priorities and cycles such as climate adaptation, restoration and nature repair, environmental approvals, cumulative impact assessment, National Ecosystem Accounts, and State of the Environment reporting.

Responsibilities
* Lead the development of the University's bid for the 2026 National Environmental Science Program Marine Hub.
* Strengthen the delivery of IMAS Strategy 2025-2030.
* Drive the formation of a national consortium to deliver integrated, decision‐ready marine science for Australia.
* Design Hub program architecture, governance model, and performance framework.
* Secure and sustain partner commitments.
* Ensure research delivery aligns with national decision‐making priorities.
Qualifications
* PhD (or equivalent) with an internationally recognised track record of excellence, funding success, and policy impact.
* Experience leading large, multidisciplinary programmes with strong governance, strategic oversight, and partnership skills.
* Deep expertise at the science/policy/practice interface and ability to translate evidence into actionable guidance.
* Demonstrated ability to build trusted collaborations across government, Traditional Owners, industry and communities.
* Experience mentoring teams and supervising HDR candidates.
* Recognition at senior national and international academic levels.
