Overview
The Salvation Army is seeking compassionate volunteer mentors who will support young people in building safe driving skills. In this role you will sit in the car with a learner driver, provide constructive feedback, model respectful communication, and help log the required 120 hours of supervised driving before the learner sits the driving test. Volunteers are provided with a fully equipped vehicle, extensive training and ongoing support.
Responsibilities
* Assist a young driver in completing the 120 hours of supervised driving required to sit the test.
* Provide constructive feedback and model respectful communication.
* Maintain clear boundaries, demonstrating empathy, consistency and reliability.
* Support the driver's learning and reinforce safe driving habits.
* Work with the professional Driving Instructor to ensure the learning plan is followed.
Qualifications & Experience
* Enjoy working with young people and can build trust and rapport.
* Demonstrate effective communication and relationship‐building skills.
* Flexible and patient.
Mandatory Requirements
* Willingness to undertake the Salvation Army's Criminal History Record Check (at the organisation's expense).
* Over 21 years old.
* Willingness to obtain a Working with Children Check.
* Willingness to engage in training provided for the role.
* Current unrestricted Driver Licence and a 3‐year safe driving record.
* Fully vaccinated.
Time Commitment
* Minimum 2hours per week (or fortnight) with flexible availability (morning and evening).
* Commitment of at least 3months.
