Our Organisation / Who We Are

At The Benevolent Society, we believe every person deserves to live life on their own terms, with dignity, respect and a sense of belonging. For over two centuries, this belief has shaped who we are and how we work.

We're working towards a just society where everyone feels valued, safe and included. As a not-for-profit, independent and non-religious organisation, we proudly embrace diversity and are deeply committed to reconciliation. We welcome people from all backgrounds, identities and experiences to join us in creating positive change.

Why this role matters

Brighter Beginnings is an early intervention initiative that supports families with children aged 0–5 years by offering practical, culturally safe support within trusted early learning environments.

This role is highly outreach-focused, delivering a place-based early intervention approach by engaging directly with families and educators in community settings. You will provide hands‐on support within early childhood centres and other community locations where families feel comfortable, ensuring services are accessible, visible and responsive to local needs.

You will play a critical role in strengthening engagement through proactive outreach, early identification of needs, and building trusted relationships that support strong referral pathways and positive outcomes for children and families.

Your day to day
* Deliver regular, proactive outreach to early childhood education and care services across Inverell and surrounding communities, with the majority of work conducted on‐site in preschools, childcare settings and community locations.
* Build and maintain strong, visible relationships with families, educators and community partners through consistent presence and engagement in local settings.
* Undertake assessments within outreach environments to understand family circumstances, identify needs and plan appropriate next steps.
* Provide information, guidance and warm referrals, supporting families to navigate services and reduce barriers to access.
* Offer short‐term, practical outreach support to families experiencing challenges such as service wait‐lists, system complexity or disengagement.
* Partner closely with educators and ACCOs to ensure outreach approaches are culturally safe, respectful and responsive, particularly when supporting Aboriginal children and families.
* Work collaboratively with your local team/s and Brighter Beginnings counterparts to ensure continuity of service delivery across regions.
Benefits
* Reconciliation Commitment – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees are entitled up to 2 days paid plus up to 10 days unpaid cultural leave, as well as the option to be a voice on reference networking groups, the opportunity for cultural and professional development that supports career pathways and your social and emotional wellbeing.
* Salary Benefits – You can package up to $15,900 pa of your pre‐tax salary to pay for everyday expenses before income tax is calculated, meaning you take home even more pay!
* Work/Life Balance – Enjoy flexible work arrangements by negotiation and accrue an additional day off each month (a bonus of 12 days per year) as a full‐time employee.
* Wellness – Stay fit with a Fitness passport, utilise our Employee Assistance Program, and even purchase additional leave.
* Professional Development – We tailor career development opportunities to all employees and volunteers for career enrichment, fulfilment, and growth.
Skills and Experience
* A relevant degree qualification in a related field.
* At least 3 years' experience working in supporting vulnerable families with young children and expectant mothers, preferably including experience supporting families with attachment disruption and trauma histories.
* Must have a solid understanding of all areas of child development such as physical, social, emotional and neurological development etc.
* Sound understanding and experience in supporting families with routines, nutrition and positive parenting practices.
* Strong background in delivering Child Protection services to vulnerable families.
* Excellent IT skills and ability to use technology in service delivery.
* Ability to work unsupervised and remotely.
* High level of professional accountability and integrity and a belief that every parent has potential.
Equality and Diversity
