The Tasmanian Health Service is inviting applications for the Registrar vacancies in the Tasmanian Anaesthetic Training Program (TATP) for the 2027 cohort.

About the program

The TATP offers state‐wide anaesthesia training at all three Tasmanian Health Service hospitals (Royal Hobart Hospital, Launceston General Hospital, North West Regional Hospital). It is a compliant, end‐to‐end training programme designed to meet ANZCA's guidelines. Typical placements are for a 2‐year length of training agreement, with up to one additional year for extended, interrupted, part‐time or leave training, giving a maximum of five years to complete four years of basic and advanced training.

Key responsibilities

* Day‐to‐day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the hospital.
* Provide after‐hours emergency cover as required by the Department of Anaesthesia.
* Participate in a protected weekly education programme and fortnightly state‐wide primary teaching sessions (via videoconference).
* Maintain satisfactory clinical performance as defined by ANZCA training standards.
* Complete all basic and advanced training requirements (both examinations) within five years.

Essential qualifications

* General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Australian or overseas medical graduate with appropriate training credentials.
* For RGA trainees: Registered with RACGP or ACRRM, or completed the fellowship; at least 2 years of training if still in primary fellowship; accredited ALS 2 course completed within 52 weeks of commencing RGA training.

Desirable qualifications

* At least 24 months of junior medical officer experience.
* Experience or interest in regional, rural or remote practice.
* Strong academic record and commitment to research and clinical audit.

Benefits and compensation

Salary ranges from $134,930 to $189,005 per annum, as per the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022. The role is a fixed‐term, full‐time position (76 hours per fortnight plus 10 hours of protected training time) commencing 1 February 2027 and expiring 7 February 2028, with potential for extension to a second year subject to availability.
