Role Summary
The Network & Perimeter Security Engineer / Specialist is responsible for securing an organization's network infrastructure and safeguarding its external and internal boundaries. This includes implementing firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPNs, and other security controls to protect against cyber threats.
Key Responsibilities
* Network Security Management
o Design, implement, and maintain secure network architectures
o Configure and manage firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Cisco, Fortinet)
o Secure external boundaries of networks against unauthorized access
o Implement and maintain DMZ (Demilitarized Zones)
o Monitor alerts using SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk, QRadar)
o Investigate and respond to network security incidents
o Perform root‐cause analysis and remediation
* Access Control & VPN
o Manage secure remote access (VPN solutions)
o Implement network access control (NAC) policies
o Ensure secure authentication and authorization mechanisms
* Security Compliance
o Ensure compliance with standards (ISO 27001, NIST, CIS, etc.)
o Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing
o Maintain security documentation and audit records
o Apply patches and updates to network security systems
o Enforce secure configurations and policies
Required Skills
* Strong understanding of TCP/IP and networking protocols
* Experience with firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs
* Knowledge of network security concepts (NAT, ACLs, segmentation)
* Familiarity with SIEM tools and log analysis
* Understanding of cloud security (AWS/Azure networking) – optional but valuable
Tools & Technologies
* SIEM: Splunk, ArcSight, QRadar
* Network tools: Wireshark, Nmap
* VPN: IPsec, SSL VPN
