Overview

The Royal Hobart Hospital is a tertiary hospital in southern Tasmania, serving a population of 300,000.

Position Eligibility

This position is suitable for Basic Physician trainees, GP Registrars, and as a non‐core term for Advanced Trainees in Rehabilitation or Emergency Medicine. It is distinct from the Advanced Trainee in Geriatric Medicine position.

Department Context

The Aged Care department has 112 inpatient beds – 60 acute, 42 subacute (Geriatric Evaluation and Management), and 10 beds for behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia requiring slow stream rehabilitation. The department provides multiple services including a consultative service, shared care orthogeriatrics model, outpatient clinics, regional outreach clinics, education to undergraduates/allied health/nursing/postgraduates, and research.

Responsibilities
* The Registrar is responsible for the day‐to‐day management of private & public inpatients/outpatients and provides after‐hours emergency cover at the hospital.
Essential Requirements
* General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable).
Salary and Classification

Salary range: $138,978 – $194,675 per annum (Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025).

Medical Practitioner Level 5-11 (Registrar/Senior Registrar).

Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.

Employment Details

Fixed term, full time day work, working 76 hours per fortnight (+10 hours protected training time per fortnight, pro rata), commencing from 1 February 2027 until 7 February 2028.

(Part‐time hours may be considered).

Location

Various – Peacock 3 / Peacock 1 / Older Persons Unit.
