Job Title: Radiation Protection Specialist
The Tasmanian government is working to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of all Tasmanians by engaging with individuals, groups and communities statewide and nationally. This includes a Radiation Protection Unit responsible for protecting people and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the administration of the Radiation Protection Act, Regulations and associated policies, procedures and guidelines
* Carry out regulatory inspections and compliance activities
* Develop innovative regulatory management solutions
* Conduct regulatory aspects of radiation protection as an Authorised Officer under the Radiation Protection Act
* Carry out projects and inspections under the Radiation Protection Act
* Assist the RPU with day-to-day administration of the Radiation Protection Act, including preparation of authorities for issue and conduction of inspections to ensure licence conditions and the Act are being met
* Assist the licensing and project officer with licensing and administrative duties as required
* Calibrate instruments and perform other health physics tasks as part of services offered to licence holders
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Tertiary qualification in Medical Physics, Health Physics, Physics or a related discipline
* Knowledge of radiation protection legislation applicable to the control and regulation of radiation sources in Tasmania
* High degree of analytical, conceptual, and communication skills, including the ability to provide technical advice to senior managers

Eligibility: Satisfactory completion of an approved tertiary qualification in Medical Physics, Health Physics, Physics or a related discipline; registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed; Current Driver's Licence (desirable).
