General Manager - Fitout and New Build Construction
Our client is a well‑regarded and quick‑growing fitout and new build construction company based in Sydney. The Directors are hands‑on in sales, pre‑construction and client relationships and are now seeking a General Manager to take ownership of the operational engine of the business. The company has a clear long‑term goal to become the most trusted fitout company in Australia. They operate with a close‑knit team, a supportive culture, strong values and a genuine commitment to quality, people and continuous improvement. This is the company’s first General Manager appointment and therefore carries significant scope to help define the structure, systems and operational direction of the business. The successful candidate will work in partnership with the Directors while having full autonomy over operations, people, finance, client experience, systems and transformation across the organisation.
Base pay range: A$275,000.00/yr - A$325,000.00/yr
Role Responsibilities
- Full ownership of operations across delivery, pre construction, compliance, safety, workflow and resource planning
- Ownership of the end to end client experience ensuring consistency, quality and alignment with company standards
- Development of systems, structures, processes and business rhythms that support scalable and sustainable growth
- Oversee all financial performance including budgets, forecasting, job costing, reporting and accountability for the overall PnL
- Provide strategic insights and recommendations to the Directors based on performance data and business direction
- Lead, coach and support the team including future leadership layers as the business expands
- Champion the company’s culture of trust, development, accountability and continuous improvement
- Drive technology adoption, automation and transformation initiatives across the business
- Ensure alignment between sales pipeline, operational capacity and business planning
- Lead all aspects of organisational structure including future team growth and capability planning
Role Requirements
- Extensive operational leadership experience within the construction industry
- Experience across fitout, commercial construction, new build or similar project environments
- Strong financial acumen including full responsibility for PnL performance
- Demonstrated ability to build systems, processes, frameworks and company‑wide operational disciplines
- People focussed leadership approach centred on trust, clarity, communication and development
- Proven ability to drive cultural alignment and support a positive team environment
- Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship building capability
- Technologically confident with an interest in automation, innovation and digital improvement
- Comfortable leading a growing business in partnership with hands‑on Directors
