About the Role
School Learning Support Officers provide support for students with identified diverse learning needs, including disability, in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. In addition, School Learning Support Officers may provide specific support for students in the following streams or settings: pre‑school, vision support, hearing support, and bilingual. Officers working in these streams/settings have specific additional duties beyond the general duties for School Learning Support Officers.
Essential Requirements
- Working with Children Check clearance
- Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the role
- Administration of medications – training to be provided based on student needs
- Health support training to be provided based on student needs (subject to transition provisions)
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities
- Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities
- Effective communication skills
Fairfield Public School, established in 1889, is situated in the heart of Fairfield's central business district. The current enrolment is over 400 students, with 95% of students from a language background other than English, and approximately 35% from a refugee background. An Inclusive Learning Hub is currently being established to commence at the beginning of the 2026 school year. The Inclusive Learning Hub will comprise two Autism (Au) classes and one Autism/Intellectual Disability (Au/IO) class.
