Overview
3D Character Artist – Melbourne (Hybrid / Studio-based) at an immersive technology studio creating next‐generation XR, real‐time and interactive experiences.
Responsibilities
* Create high‐quality realistic 3D characters from concept through to final in‐game/real‐time assets.
* Model, sculpt and texture characters using industry‐standard workflows.
* Produce optimised assets suitable for real‐time engines (Unity / Unreal).
* Build clean topology, UVs and textures with performance in mind.
* Collaborate with rigging, animation and technical teams to ensure characters deform and perform correctly.
* Iterate on assets based on creative and technical feedback.
* Contribute to look development and help maintain consistent visual quality across projects.
Qualifications
* Proven experience as a 3D Character Artist in games, VFX, XR or real‐time production.
* Strong skills in tools such as ZBrush, Maya/Blender, Substance Painter/Designer.
* Solid understanding of anatomy, form, proportion and surface detail.
* Experience with realistic character pipeline work.
* Knowledge of PBR workflows and optimisation for real‐time platforms.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‐paced, creative environment.
* Strong portfolio showcasing character work (stylised and/or realistic).
Nice to Have
* Experience working in Unity or Unreal Engine.
* Understanding of XR/VR performance constraints.
* Knowledge of rigging, skinning or animation workflows.
* Experience with facial blendshapes or performance capture pipelines.
