About the role
The Work Health Safety Coordinator is instrumental in establishing, driving, and maintaining a strong and proactive safety culture that encourages accountability and collaboration across the organisation while also ensuring compliance with applicable legislative frameworks, policies and procedures.
The WHS Coordinator will lead and coach a small, passionate and geographically dispersed team to facilitate safety partnering, injury and illness rehabilitation programs, safety and compliance training, wellbeing health and safety systems and development and review of relevant policies and procedures.
Reporting to the People and Performance Manager, this is a great opportunity for an experienced and qualified safety professional to take their career to the next level.
About you
You will bring demonstrated experience in safety leadership, driving contemporary health, safety and wellbeing initiatives that strengthen compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld) across a diverse environment.
A strong communicator, you will be able to influence and foster a positive safety culture while building effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
In this hands-on role, you will provide both strategic and operational advice and direction to your close-knit team and the wider organisation. You will also coach and mentor team members, conduct hazard inspections, and develop and implement sustainable WHS strategies.
Key responsibilities:
* Develop and maintain an effective Safety Management System and ensure implementation across all Council worksites.
* Work collaboratively within the organisation to promote, develop and foster a collaborative culture which creates a work environment where employees embrace and value safety and take responsibility for their own safety and the overall safety performance of Council.
* Develop, implement, manage and review the WHS management system, including standards, policies, procedures and supporting systems, ensuring that all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements and standards are met.
* Develop, maintain and continuously review systems, processes and registers by which accidents, incidents and hazards can be accurately documented, analysed and reported to internal stakeholders.
* Analyse health and safety related information and prepare regular reports for Management, Work Health and Safety Committee or external authorities
* Provide accurate and up to date information and advice to all areas of Council to ensure the organisation is compliant with applicable legislation and the compliance framework.
* Coordinate and assess the compliance training requirements for Council to meet internal and regulatory requirements such as inductions and the verification of competency program.
* Coordinate and manage the work and non-work-related injury and illness rehabilitation program.
* Provide effective supervision and leadership of the Work Health and Safety team.
