Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Bricklayer to join JWH Group Pty Ltd, based in Geraldton, Mid-West Region, WA. The role involves laying bricks, blocks and other masonry materials in residential construction. The ideal candidate is hardworking, reliable and committed to delivering high-quality workmanship and is open to continuous learning and professional skills development.
Key Responsibilities
* Reviews construction drawings and specifications to determine layout requirements, material quantities, and building methods
* Prepares and levels foundations, applying mortar beds and moisture-resistant layers to create a stable base for masonry work
* Lays bricks and blocks in precise patterns, ensuring correct bonding, spacing, and structural alignment throughout the structure
* Cuts, shapes, and adjusts masonry units using hand tools and machinery to achieve proper fit in corners, edges, and irregular spaces
* Finishes and checks work by filling joints with mortar, removing excess material, and verifying vertical and horizontal alignment for structural accuracy
* Ensures all bricklaying work meets required quality standards, building codes, and project specifications
* Conducts regular checks on work completed to ensure high-quality results and resolve any issues promptly
* Works closely with the Leading Hand to address any project deviations or challenges
* Upholds company safety standards and ensures compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations on-site
* Leads by example, ensuring safe work practices are followed by all team members
* Conducts daily toolbox talks and informs the team of any potential hazards or safety measures
* Mentors and supports apprentices, providing on-the-job training and guidance to develop their bricklaying skills
* Assists apprentices in achieving their qualification requirements and exposes them to a broad range of techniques and tasks
* Fosters a culture of continuous improvement within the team, encouraging skill development and adherence to best practices
* Maintains clear communication with the Leading Hand regarding team progress, project issues, and potential delays
* Ensures all required documentation is completed and submitted in a timely manner, including daily reports, safety checklists, and material logs
* Assists in managing materials on-site, ensuring the timely supply of necessary resources
* Works with the Leading Hand to ensure efficient use of materials and minimise waste
Qualifications
Applicants must have a relevant trade qualification AQF Certificate IV with at least one year of relevant experience. Alternatively, at least three years of full-time relevant experience in lieu of a formal qualification.
* Proficiency in bricklaying techniques, mortar mixing, brick cutting, construction methods, interpreting plans and specifications, adherence to building codes and standards
* In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in the construction industry
* Ability to identify challenges on-site and develop practical solutions to address them
* Ability to contribute to site preparation and post-work cleanup, maintain a clean and organised work environment
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to liaise effectively with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders
Salary
A salary of $76,515 - $87,000 will be offered to the successful candidate.
