Senior Electrical Engineer | Renewable Energy | Developer Side
Most electrical engineering roles in renewables sound similar........Review the design. Answer RFIs. Sit between the EPC, consultants, construction team and grid stakeholders. Try to keep technical risk under control while the project keeps moving.
The hard part is making clear technical decisions in a live construction environment, where design gaps, contract ambiguity, site constraints and commercial pressure all meet.
However, in this role, you are involved before technical issues become expensive, and before the pressure of construction falls on you.
You won't be sitting in a pure design-side role, reviewing drawings in isolation from the consequences on site. You'll work directly with construction, procurement, legal, EPC contractors, OEMs and consultants to make sure the engineering is practical, contractually clear and buildable.
Our client, an Australian Developer, are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to play a key role in the delivery of utility-scale Solar and BESS projects.
The role
You'll be responsible for reviewing and validating electrical engineering designs, drawings and studies across HV / MV systems, substations and grid connection infrastructure.
You'll support construction teams during delivery, provide regular site-based technical input, and ensure engineering deliverables align with project specifications, contract requirements and Australian standards.
The role will also involve preparing and reviewing technical exhibits and appendices for EPC contracts, supplier agreements and consultancy scopes, while working closely with procurement and legal teams to improve technical clarity and reduce risk.
You'll interface with EPC contractors, OEMs and consultants to resolve technical queries, support value engineering and optimisation during construction, and contribute to commissioning and handover from an electrical engineering perspective.
Key responsibilities
* Review and validate electrical engineering designs, drawings and studies across HV / MV systems, substations and grid connection infrastructure
* Provide hands-on technical support to construction teams during project execution, including regular site presence
* Ensure engineering deliverables align with project specifications, contractual requirements and Australian standards
* Lead the preparation and review of technical exhibits and appendices for EPC contracts, supplier agreements and consultancy scopes
* Work closely with construction, procurement and legal teams to improve technical clarity and reduce delivery risk
* Identify design gaps, risks and inconsistencies, then drive practical, site-focused solutions
* Interface with EPC contractors, OEMs and consultants to resolve technical queries efficiently
* Support value engineering and optimisation initiatives during construction
* Review grid connection documentation and support compliance with Australian regulatory requirements
* Contribute to commissioning and handover activities from an electrical engineering perspective
About you
* You've reviewed detailed electrical engineering and understood the impact it has once construction starts.
* You've worked with EPC contractors, consultants, OEMs and internal project teams. You know how quickly a small technical gap can become a site issue, a delay, a variation or a commercial argument.
* You've seen what happens when design, contracts and construction are not properly joined up.
* You get that good engineering in this environment is not just technically correct. It needs to be practical, clear and buildable.
* You're comfortable working between design, construction and contracts. You can challenge details when needed, make decisions in a live project environment, and translate technical complexity into clear documentation that helps people move forward.
* You've got strong site experience, sound judgement, and the confidence to work with construction, procurement, legal and delivery teams to resolve issues before they become bigger problems.
Experience required
* Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
* Chartered Engineer status or equivalent preferred
* 7 to 10+ years' electrical engineering experience within renewable energy, utilities or large-scale infrastructure projects
* Strong EPC background, with demonstrated experience working for or alongside EPC contractors
* Extensive site experience during construction and commissioning phases of large-scale projects
* Proven experience reviewing detailed engineering and supporting construction delivery
* Experience preparing and reviewing technical documentation for EPC contracts and major equipment packages
* Strong understanding of HV / MV systems, substations and grid connection for renewable assets including solar, wind or BESS
* Good knowledge of Australian standards and regulatory frameworks
* Familiarity with the National Electricity Market, AEMO, NSPs and grid connection processes
* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions in fast-paced site environments
