Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Skid Steer Operator to join our Fleet Services team. In this role, you will be responsible for completing assigned projects and delivering tasks to the highest standard for our road construction and maintenance works, planning work effectively, and conducting pre‐start checks to ensure the safe operation of all plant and equipment.
You will maintain the skid steer and other plant through routine inspections, cleaning, secure storage, and minor repairs, while promptly reporting any faults or breakdowns. Safe loading and tie‐down practices are essential for transporting plant and equipment to and from worksites. You'll actively participate in Toolbox meetings to improve safety, quality, and productivity, and assist onsite teams with labouring activities when required. A strong commitment to customer service and workplace health and safety is key to success in this role.
All successful candidates are required to undergo drug and alcohol testing as part of the recruitment process. Townsville City Council has a 'zero tolerance' policy to drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
Qualifications and Experience
* Current HR driver's licence.
* Skid Steer Operators Certificate with final trim experience.
* Certificate associated with the successful completion of the Safe Working Near Live Exposed Parts training course.
* Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks to achieve set outcomes and create effective working relationships to ensure team objectives are met.
* Knowledge and experience in the efficient and safe operation of heavy ridged vehicles and other items of plant, including servicing requirements and pre‐start checks and basic mechanical knowledge associated with day‐to‐day maintenance of plant and trucks.
* Knowledge of Aus‐Spec, Australian Standards, Load Restraint Guide, Work Health and Safety legislative requirements, Quality Assurance procedures and all other relevant standards, guidelines and codes in the operation of heavy vehicles in a civil construction/local government environment.
