The role
Reporting to the Group Executive Major Projects, Assets & Technical Services you will lead strategic project delivery and drive transformation across the organisation. We are seeking an experienced and visionary PMO General Manager to lead our Project Management Office and oversee the successful execution of enterprise-wide initiatives. This is a pivotal leadership role that will shape the way we deliver value through projects and programs of work.
As PMO General Manager, you will:
Lead the PMO function, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy
Develop and implement project governance frameworks, tools and standards
Oversee the delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects and programs
Provide strategic guidance to senior leaders and project teams
Drive continuous improvement in project delivery and stakeholder engagement
Manage PMO resources, budgets and reporting
Key Duties
Strategic Leadership
Lead the design, implementation, and evolution of TasPorts' enterprise-wide project management framework, methodology, and standards.
Provide strategic advice on project governance, prioritisation, and resource allocation to support corporate and investment strategies.
Collaborate with Executives and General Managers to ensure portfolio visibility and strategic alignment.
Governance and Oversight
Establish and maintain robust governance structures for projects and programs, ensuring clarity, accountability, and risk management.
Deliver high-quality portfolio-level reporting to the Executive and Board, enabling data-driven decision-making.
Monitor project performance, benefits realisation, and alignment with business outcomes.
Capability Development and Support
Act as a trusted advisor and coach to project managers and sponsors, promoting best practice and problem-solving.
Lead initiatives to build project management capability across the organisation, including training, mentoring, and professional development.
Provide fit‑for‑purpose tools, templates, and systems that support efficient and effective project delivery.
Delivery Enablement
Support early-stage project planning and initiation to ensure strong foundations for success.
Promote consistent practices in scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.
Drive resource planning and optimisation across the project portfolio.
Stakeholder Engagement and Influence
Build and maintain strong relationships across business units and with external partners, fostering collaboration and shared ownership of outcomes.
Represent TasPorts in external forums and engagements related to project governance and delivery.
Support Executive-level communication and engagement on project and program outcomes.

This role is based in TasPorts Head Office in Launceston.
About you
Extensive Leadership in Project Governance
Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-level PMO functions within complex organisational environments, with a proven ability to establish and maintain robust governance structures and drive strategic alignment across diverse project portfolios.
Strategic Portfolio Management Expertise
Proven capability in managing large-scale project portfolios, delivering high-quality reporting and insights to executive and board levels, and enabling data-driven decision-making aligned with corporate and investment strategies.
Project Management Frameworks and Methodologies
Deep understanding of project management principles, with experience in designing and implementing enterprise-wide frameworks, tools, and standards. Familiarity with both traditional and agile methodologies is highly desirable.
Capability Development and Coaching
Strong track record in uplifting organisational project management capability through coaching, mentoring, training, and the provision of fit‑for‑purpose tools and systems.
Stakeholder Engagement and Influence
Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organisation and with external partners. Experience representing the organisation in external forums is advantageous.
Sector-Specific Experience
Experience in infrastructure, maritime, or transport-related projects is highly regarded, along with familiarity with port asset management frameworks or lifecycle design considerations.
Delivery Excellence
Demonstrated ability to support project planning and execution, ensuring delivery within agreed parameters of time, cost, scope, and quality, while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
Ability to attain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
Professional certification in project and program management (e.g., AIPM, PMP, MSP, PRINCE2, PgMP).
Experience in infrastructure, maritime, or transport-related projects.
Familiarity with both traditional and agile project management methodologies.
