The Opportunity
BlueScope Building Components is looking for an experienced Product Development Engineer to join the Research and Technology Team based in Minchinbury NSW. BlueScope Building Components, a division of BlueScope in Australia, manufactures and markets steel building products, solutions and services through its four leading brands: Lysaght, Fielders, Ranbuild and Kiteleys.
What Will You Do?
In this dynamic role, you will lead the design, development and implementation of exciting new products and product improvements, from concept to launch. You will work cross-functionally with various teams across Australia to ensure the successful delivery of key product development and innovation projects to meet market expectations.
You will:
* project manage and lead new product design and development to meet an agreed scope of technical and commercial objectives, using a hands-on approach through the prototyping, testing and implementation phases of product development
* lead the technical and practical evaluation of new products in collaboration with internal and external teams. This may also include the development of new test programs to effectively demonstrate in-market feasibility of new products and solutions
* assist with the specification, evaluation and commissioning of equipment to produce new products as required. This includes trial and pilot line equipment for product development, as well as scale-up to manufacturing in preparation for NPD launch
* develop and manage effective relationships with external suppliers, distributors and manufacturers to support NPD
* execute projects in a structured manner to enable effective technical and business evaluations through Stage Gate process
* support product launches and go-to-market activities, including the development of technical literature and training content for new products
* provide post-launch support for NPD projects from a technical perspective
More About You
As an experienced product development engineer, you will have had experience delivering on end-to-end product development projects, with building products knowledge and exposure to building codes and regulations. In addition, you will have:
* tertiary
qualifications
in Engineering, Science or equivalent
* product development & stage gate experience, preferably within the building products industry
* building and construction product & industry knowledge
* project management experience
* stakeholder management experience
* software skills in Microsoft Office
You will also have key competencies in:
Information Gathering and Analysis: You effectively analyse & report technical data & findings.
Building Beneficial Relationships: You collaborate with technical teams and other cross functional groups from the commercial and operational sides of the business.
Delivering Effective Communication: You present and convey information confidently and in a clear and effective way. You consult with external stakeholders and can identify interactions, links or dependences between New Product Development activities and ensure these are addressed in implementation planning.
Innovative Problem Solving: You think critically and outside the box to resolve issues during the product development process and optimise concept designs with a continued focus on delivering technical & commercial viability.
Results Driven : You prioritise efforts to focus on the right activities to efficiently deliver on project objectives.
