The opportunitiesWe are recruiting experienced professionals into nuclear security roles at the Executive Level 1 (EL1) and Executive Level 2 (EL2) who will contribute to Australia’s national security, international reputation, and global non-proliferation. You will champion Australia’s international nuclear security and non-proliferation obligations and ensure domestic regulatory oversight is robust, credible and independent in upholding Australia's nuclear non-proliferation treaty obligations.
You will contribute to the development, implementation and oversight of nuclear security arrangements in Australia and lead Australia’s nuclear security engagement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other domestic and international partners.
You will be able to contribute to the development of Australia and the Asia Pacific nuclear security capabilities through your participation in the development, implementation and attendance at technical learning and engagement opportunities.
We also have a need for specialised threat, cyber and computer security professionals as ASNO continues to strengthen Australia’s resilience to evolving nuclear security threats. You will provide authoritative, expert regulatory advice on the application of nuclear security requirements, drawing on your specialist threat, cyber and computer security knowledge to permit holders, whole-of-government counterparts, regional partners and other stakeholders.
You will keep abreast on threat, cyber security and computer threats as they relate to nuclear material and facilities applying this knowledge and best-practice approaches to ensure that Australia continues to meet its non-proliferation obligations.
The roles differ in level of responsibility and independence and are critical to ensuring nuclear security settings are appropriate, timely and defensible. Together, these roles help ensure Australia meets its legal and treaty obligations while adapting to new technologies, facilities and international expectations.
You will be able to:
- explain nuclear security, including cyber and threat requirements, in clear and practical terms
- identify risks, gaps or opportunities for improvement in all areas of nuclear security policy and practice
- further Australia’s engagement with the IAEA and international partners on nuclear security
- balance planned and strategic work with responding to emerging issues, ad-hoc tasking and changing priorities
- make judgements in environments involving risk, sensitivity and public scrutiny
- lead or support inspections, regulatory actions or compliance activities.
- represent ASNO at meetings, workshops or technical forums.
The working environment is open-plan. Due to the nature of the work and security requirements, full-time remote working is not available for these positions. In certain circumstances, flexible arrangements may be possible for some roles, subject to operational and security requirements.
