Role Overview
Community Awareness and Engagement Officer – Part‐time, 4 days per week (9am – 5pm) based at headspace Kempsey.
Responsibilities
Work within a multidisciplinary team at our Kempsey centre focusing on community capacity building, youth participation, community awareness, and education and training activities designed to raise awareness and understanding of youth mental health. Develop and link with a range of creative, youth‐friendly programmes and strategies to attract and engage young people.
Essential Criteria
* Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline or extensive demonstrated experience in health promotion, public health, social sciences, communication/marketing, education or youth work.
* Awareness of the health issues affecting children and young people, particularly those experiencing mental health problems.
* Sound knowledge of health promotion and social marketing principles.
* Proven ability to utilise a strengths‐based approach to communicate and develop respectful and professional relationships with young people aged 12‐25 years.
* Experience in providing training and group activities that facilitate opportunities for young people to develop appropriate skills.
* Demonstrated willingness and ability to work within a team.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Excellent computer skills (MS Word, PowerPoint, internet, social media platforms, email and publishing software).
* Able to work flexible hours and days to accommodate the needs of the community.
* NSW Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check, First Aid & CPR certificate, Covid‐19 vaccination certificate and a pre‐employment functional medical assessment.
Desirable Qualifications
* Experience in writing and editing written and web‐based social media publications.
* Grant writing experience.
* Accreditation running evidence‐based group programmes or mental health training.
* Attendance at a suicide risk assessment training such as ASIST, Blackdog Advanced Training in Suicide Prevention, etc.
