Position Information

Newington Public School is a large metropolitan school located adjacent to Sydney Olympic Park with a student enrolment of 658. Our school is supported by a strong multi-cultural community with over 80% of students having a language background other than English. Close to 50 different cultural/language groups are identified within the school. The school prides itself on being a welcoming school that provides strong academic programs balanced with an important emphasis on student wellbeing, offering a broad, balanced curriculum, as well as enrichment and extracurricular activities. The school culture is that of inclusion, high expectations and personal excellence. It promotes student responsibility, respect, safety and lifelong learning through creative, intellectual, physical and social-emotional development. The school motto 'Learning for Life' provides direction in ensuring that we motivate, engage and challenge all school community members to value education.

The successful applicant will be expected to commence duties Day 1, Term 1 2027.

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary;

1) Proven ability to develop, implement, and evaluate School Excellence Plans, including strategic planning, and to lead and monitor educational initiatives that support continuous growth and personal excellence.

2) Experience in leading instructional improvement by supporting evidence-informed literacy and numeracy programs, using student data to identify learning gaps, inform differentiated teaching practices, and mentoring teachers to ensure high-impact professional learning that improves student outcomes.

3) Demonstrated success in leading and promoting a safe, well-managed, and respectful school environment that supports academic, social, and emotional learning, while developing inclusive strategies that address the wellbeing of all students, including diverse learners.

4) Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build strong partnerships with staff, students, parents, and the wider community through visible leadership of initiatives that support student learning and wellbeing.

General Selection Criteria 1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
