Position Overview
The Café or Restaurant Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the complete operational, financial, and strategic performance of the restaurant. This position is critical to ensuring the business maintains its high standards of service, operational efficiency, and brand consistency in line with Murugan Idli's established reputation for authentic South Indian cuisine.
The role extends beyond routine restaurant management and includes responsibility for supporting and managing the business's expansion strategy within Adelaide, particularly the development and operation of multiple express kitchen outlets. The position requires a highly experienced and skilled individual capable of managing multi‐site operations, driving business growth, and maintaining consistent quality across all locations.
Role Scope and Scale
* Responsible for managing operations of a high‐volume restaurant environment, managing a workforce of 50+ staff across front‐of‐house and kitchen functions
* Accountable for annual revenue performance and profitability targets of the business
* Manage multiple operational units, including the main restaurant and planned express kitchen outlets
* Responsible for ensuring consistency, efficiency, and financial performance across all operational locations
Key Responsibilities
* Overseeing end‐to‐end restaurant operations, ensuring smooth coordination between kitchen and front‐of‐house functions in a high‐volume environment
* Planning, organising, and controlling all aspects of operations to maintain efficiency, service quality, and customer satisfaction
* Managing and leading a large team, including recruitment, training, rostering, performance evaluation, and ongoing staff development
* Ensuring delivery of exceptional customer service standards, maintaining brand reputation, and driving repeat business
* Monitoring and controlling financial performance, including budgeting, cost management, labour control, and achieving profitability targets
* Managing inventory, procurement, and supplier relationships to ensure operational continuity and cost efficiency
* Implementing and maintaining standardised operating procedures across all business functions to ensure consistency and compliance
* Ensuring strict adherence to Australian food safety regulations, hygiene standards, licensing requirements, and workplace health and safety obligations
* Overseeing POS systems, reporting, and financial tracking to ensure accurate operational and financial reporting
* Leading the setup, launch, and operational management of express kitchen outlets within Adelaide, ensuring alignment with the main restaurant's standards
* Developing and executing operational strategies to support business expansion, scalability, and long‐term sustainability
* Monitoring performance metrics across locations, identifying improvement opportunities, and implementing strategic solutions
* Liaising with directors and senior management to align operational outcomes with business objectives and growth plans
Skills and Experience Required
* Extensive experience in restaurant or hospitality management, preferably in high‐volume or multi‐location operations
* Strong leadership and team management capability, with the ability to manage diverse teams effectively
* Proven ability to manage financial performance, control costs, and drive profitability
* Excellent customer service and communication skills
* Strong operational planning, problem‐solving, and organisational skills
* Experience in implementing systems, processes, and operational controls across multiple locations
* Sound knowledge of Australian food safety standards and workplace regulations

Salary
$140,000 - $145,000 per annum + superannuation
