What's the role?A senior journalist will lead the State and Community division as National Political Editor, based in Canberra. The position offers a front‐row seat to Australia's political stage, working closely with the Canberra team and national mastheads – The Herald Sun, The Daily Telegraph, The Courier Mail and The Advertiser – to deliver compelling, high‐quality coverage for a national audience.
Responsibilities
* Break exclusive political stories and provide insightful analysis for a national audience.
* Collaborate with state‐based colleagues to ensure cohesive and comprehensive political coverage.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with key political figures, policymakers, and stakeholders.
* Deliver high‐quality content under tight deadlines, demonstrating initiative and resilience.
* Lead the national political agenda and manage the Canberra team, reporting directly to the Head of News for Network News.
Qualifications
* A deep curiosity and passion for uncovering stories that matter.
* Proven experience in political reporting or a related field.
* Strong multi‐platform skills, including video broadcast and editing.
* Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, with a focus on accuracy and clarity.
* Initiative, maturity and enthusiasm for tackling difficult and robust assignments.
* Strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a fast‐paced, high‐pressure environment.
