Job Description
The Data Scientist position is based in Visa's Sydney office. The role involves data preparation, data analysis, storytelling, and communicating insights to internal and external stakeholders. You will work with Visa's big data sets and, in collaboration with clients' data when required.
The candidate should possess hands‐on experience with the technologies described below and an ability to collaborate across teams and functions to deliver value to Visa and our clients. The successful candidate will have opportunities to work on a wide variety of problems across Visa's issuer business.

Visa Consulting & Analytics
Visa Consulting & Analytics (VCA) is Visa's consulting division, serving Visa's clients (including card issuers, acquirers, and merchants) and solving their strategic problems focused on improving performance and profitability.
Responsibilities
* Support design, development, and delivery of data science/engineering solutions to Visa clients, adhering to scope and timelines
* Build and maintain positive relationships with clients
* Provide mentorship to junior team members
* Partner with consultants, engineering, and data scientists to address prioritized business problems
* Build data‐driven solutions / models aligned with client priorities, leading vendor execution when required
* Break large solutions into smaller, releasable phases and seek feedback from product owners, clients, and partners
* Define detailed scope and methodology, design and create solutions, and implement using appropriate tools and techniques
* Support development of a robust system for measuring and optimizing the quality of deployed algorithms and models
* Maintain AI models in production to evaluate performance, model drift, and decay
* Actively seek out opportunities to innovate using external data and new modelling techniques fit for purpose
* Ensure legal, compliance and security requirements are fully adhered to
Hybrid Work Arrangement: This role is hybrid. Minimum 3 days in office required; days in office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.
Basic Qualifications
* 5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree, or 2+ years of relevant work experience with an advanced degree (Masters, MBA, JD, MD), or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, or 8+ years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications
* Same experience requirements as above, with preference for additional industry or technical experience
Qualification in Data Science / Computer Science
* Experience as data scientist/engineer or analytics consultant
* Hands‐on experience in developing AI models, scaling data solutions, and delivering end‐to‐end data science projects
* Experience working with large and multi‐dimensional datasets
* Proficiency in implementing standard classification and clustering algorithms
* Proficiency in big‐data aggregation using Hive, Spark, SQL and Python
* Experience with visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar
* Outstanding problem‐solving skills
* Strong internal team and external client management in a collaborative, diplomatic, and flexible style, effective in a matrixed organization
* Intellectual curiosity, self‐motivation and results orientation, ability to handle multiple projects
* Ability to learn new tools and paradigms as data science evolves
* Demonstrated resource planning and delivery skills
* Strong communication and presentation skills with ability to interact with cross‐functional teams
* Understanding of the payments and banking industry (e.g., consumer credit, debit, prepaid, small business, commercial, co‐branded, merchant)
* Consultancy experience is a plus
* Technical expertise: efficient SQL queries, Hive, Python, Spark
* Dashboard/report development using Tableau or Power BI
* Good understanding of Agile methodology
* Experience in deployment and operationalization of machine‐learning models
* Experience with Apache Airflow and cloud‐based data science platforms is advantageous
* Business and leadership competencies
* Quality focus, strong problem‐solving ability, track‐record in analytical challenges
* Detail orientation to ensure high quality reports and analysis
* Proficiency in translating analytics output to actionable recommendations and delivery
* Skilled at presenting data‐driven insights to audiences with varying technical levels
* Demonstrates continuous learning mindset
