Position Description – Environmental Project Manager – Commencing Early 2026
This hybrid management/output delivery role leads a multis-disciplinary environmental consulting team, providing environmental surveys, report preparation, and technical support across NSW, particularly west of the Great Dividing Range. The role involves planning, managing and collecting field data to support compliance reporting for a broad client base including government, corporate and private sector clients.
Location
Mudgee, NSW – a boutique wine‑growing region set in the mountains, about 3.5 hours from Sydney and Newcastle. The area offers accommodations, schools, a new hospital, and proximity to Dubbo, Orange and Bathurst for specialist services.
Work from home/Office‑Based Options
The position is based in Mudgee but allows a hybrid model with occasional remote work from home and routine attendance at the Mudgee office. High‑quality accommodation is available for short‑term arrangements.
Compensation
Market‑based salary package with starting and incremental adjustments based on skills, qualifications, experience and applicable engagement arrangements.
Part‑Time Option
A part‑time arrangement may be considered for a suitable applicant with the potential to transition to full‑time.
Responsibilities
- Develop projects, plan field surveys and conduct vegetation surveys.
- Prepare, edit and submit compliant environmental reports.
- Manage cultural heritage assessment components of compliance reporting.
- Work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating self‑motivation.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and negotiate directly with clients.
- Ability to deliver presentations and/or train groups.
- Practical exposure to Australian native flora and fauna and capacity to identify species and plant community types.
- Tertiary qualification in Natural Resource Management or a comparable science; minimum bachelor’s degree required.
- Experience managing a team, projects and budgets to meet deadlines; 1–2 years of team‑management experience essential.
- Experience working with Local, State, and other Government agencies and an understanding of their roles and relevant legislation.
- Valid NSW driver’s licence.
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office platforms.
- Australian work authorization.
Essential Considerations
- Capacity to travel and be away for short stays (multiple days) for field surveys and meetings.
- Field survey work subject to seasonal constraints and project deadlines.
- Understanding of private‑sector business principles, quoting and project budgeting.
- Private vehicle ownership essential for remote work options.
Highly Desirable
- Capacity to work on field assessment projects with knowledge of vegetation types, ecology and field survey principles.
- Understanding of GIS and mapping technology.
- General awareness of environmental legislation.
