This is an Aboriginal Identified Role – we need someone to bring their cultural capability and lived experience as an Aboriginal person to this role. As part of the recruitment process, we will ask you to provide documentation to confirm your Aboriginality and your cultural capability will also be assessed through the recruitment process.
Responsibilities
* Establish links with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to encourage and support the increased use of health services within SESLHD.
* Understand and identify barriers and solutions for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in accessing health services in SESLHD.
* Support health professionals and health services to ensure culturally appropriate and safe policies and practices are implemented when engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Selection Criteria
* To be a person of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-discrimination Act 1977.
* Hold or aspire to hold a minimum III health qualification in the area of care in which Aboriginal Health Workers work and have relevant experience in the delivery of Aboriginal Health Programs.
* Demonstrated highly developed skills in oral and written communication and computer literacy.
* Demonstrated ability to inform and support the development of Aboriginal health programs/services and their implementation.
* Ability to engage with Aboriginal organisations, mainstream health services, NGOs and government services.
* Comprehensive understanding of challenges and barriers related to Aboriginal health, particularly around chronic disease.
* Demonstrated experience in case management or care coordination working with Aboriginal families.
* Valid driver's licence and ability to travel in accordance with the role requirements.
