The Head of Special Education role at Mackay Central State School presents an exciting opportunity to join a strong, inclusive, and high-performing school community.

The Head of Special Education will lead a dedicated team of Diverse Learning Teachers and support staff, including an Occupational Therapist and Speech Language Pathologist, who work collaboratively to ensure every student with disability is supported to succeed at school and thrive in their learning.

This leadership position plays a pivotal role in driving inclusive education practices, building staff capability, and fostering a culture of equity, success, and belonging for all learners at Mackay Central State School.

Responsibilities Include

* Leadership of Inclusive Practices: Lead and promote the effective implementation of inclusive education across the school, ensuring alignment with departmental policy and the Australian Curriculum Version 9.
* Student Support and Case Management: Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individual Curriculum Plans (ICPs), Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs), and reasonable adjustments under the NCCD framework.
* Team Leadership and Collaboration: Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team including Diverse Learning Teachers, teacher aides, an Occupational Therapist, and a Speech Language Pathologist, ensuring coordinated and evidence-based support for students.
* Data-Informed Decision Making: Analyse student data to identify trends, track progress, and inform intervention planning to improve outcomes for students with disability and additional learning needs.
* Partnerships and Collaboration: Work closely with classroom teachers, regional specialists, families, and external agencies to build a supportive network around each student.
* Professional Capability Building: Support teachers and staff to differentiate effectively, implement Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and engage in professional learning that enhances inclusive teaching practices.
* Compliance and Reporting: Manage NCCD verification, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with all departmental and legislative requirements related to students with disability.
* Contribution to School Leadership: As a key member of the leadership team, contribute to strategic planning, wellbeing initiatives, and the school's Annual Improvement Plan (AIP).
