Geotechnical Engineer
The role requires a high level of practical underground mining knowledge including mining principles with working knowledge of mine planning processes.
Key Accountabilities
* Ensure the collection and processing of consistent and high quality geotechnical data required for ground control, mine planning and design requirements in accordance with industry best practice.
* Manage a geotechnical data management system which ensures that data is well organised and accessible to relevant users, but adequately secured to avoid inadvertent alteration or loss.
* Ensure that historic rock mass performance in excavations is recorded and interpreted.
* Develop and verify appropriate design criteria on an ongoing basis to ensure that it supports the mine design, planning and sequencing process.
* Inspect, investigate and analyse all rock falls including formal documentation (e.g. report and actioning of any key recommendations).
* Keep informed of industry trends and practices through the review of relevant literature, incident alerts etc.
* Recommend and assist with training and refresher training for all personnel to improve their awareness and understanding of ground control procedures, monitoring techniques and ground failure warning signs.
* Implement required geotechnical TARP actions as relevant.
* Provide geotechnical input into short term (monthly) to medium term (quarterly to bi-annual) mine design/planning.
* Develop and maintain geotechnical databases for ground conditions, damage maps, micro-seismic monitoring, extensometers and other deformation monitoring, and stope stability performance data.
* Interpret structural data and models to ensure that structures are considered in ground support, development and stope design.
* Identify and communicate risks and mitigation strategies for all mine development and production issues, within the short to medium-term planning horizon.
* Adhere at all times to MMG’s values of Safety, Integrity, Action, and Results which form the basis of, and underpin all MMG’s business relationships.
